It's time to bring in T-shirts for screen printing and class color tie dye. (Grades K-2 shirts are provided by their teachers). As the students get older, they start to have preferences in size and style, so we ask that they come from home for the upper elementary and middle school classes. These upper level grades will have the opportunity to learn about the screen printing process and print their own shirt! The following week students will tie dye using their class color. Things to keep in mind with shirt selection:

Hello BNS Families!
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year. My name is Patti Rowland, and this is my 10th year teaching art at Blacksburg New School. I am very much looking forward to making art with your children. For the past two years I have been making a choice-based education shift in the art room, and am excited about continuing to explore this more. Let me share a bit more about art, and art related BNS events. Your child is creating an art portfolio throughout the whole year to have a collection of art to select from for exhibit opportunities. A great way you can support and nurture your child in art is by viewing their online gallery, and talking about their art with them at home. If your child is excited about something that they are working on in the classroom, please feel free to come in and let them show you their “in progress” art. I will share what’s happening in the art room through my art blog, so make sure you check that out throughout the year at http://bnsartstudio.weebly.com/. Keep an eye out for these art related events! * Fall and spring tie dye * Art from the Heart” exhibit during the BNS Chocolate Party * A collaborative artwork by each class which becomes a meaningful contribution to BNS fundraising * BNS Arts Night... the grand finale! I’ve had the opportunity to meet with all of my classes, and I’m really looking forward to this year and what it has to bring. I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks for sharing your creative children. Patti |
Hello, my name is Patti Rowland and I am the art teacher for grades K - 8 at Blacksburg New School. I feel very fortunate to be able to have each class for an hour two times a week. Teaching at Blacksburg New School gives me the opportunity to explore and create a curriculum that incorporates choice-based learning, which serves the varying processing styles of our young artists.
