It is so hard to believe that we are about to enter our last week of school. We have been spending these last few weeks preparing for the end of the year Arts Night. The format for the art show is changing this year, which has in turn changed the format for preparing for the show. Art will be displayed on boards this year, opposed to hanging panels as we have done in the past. This has given myself, as well as the students, opportunities to participate together in assembling the art show together. I have really enjoyed connecting with each of the students about their year in art, along with what to think about for next year. They were also able to give important input as to how their art should be displayed, along with how to collaborate within a display space. I have truly enjoyed this switch so far. I do hope that you are able to come out and enjoy a fun filled night of visual and musical art THIS Thursday, June 1.

Be sure to check out the projects below at the BNS Auction on May 21! The students have been working very hard to complete these works of art. Doing projects for events like these give the students many wonderful opportunities. They are able to see how their individual artistic contribution can be part of a whole piece, work with materials that they may not otherwise work with, figure out how to work within a group, create both functional and visual art pieces, and participate in the contribution of a fundraising event. The rainbows are coming home! Last Thursday, the students did as great job |
Hello, my name is Patti Rowland and I am the art teacher for grades K - 8 at Blacksburg New School. I feel very fortunate to be able to have each class for an hour two times a week. Teaching at Blacksburg New School gives me the opportunity to explore and create a curriculum that incorporates choice-based learning, which serves the varying processing styles of our young artists.
