Finger Knitting is Fabulous!Learning about fiber arts plays an important role in the art classroom. Here you will see that the fifth grade Blue Room students are getting the hang of how to finger knit. We "tied" this into to the Colonial period unit that fifth grade was learning about. We tried out metal punching too!

The seventh grade Purple Room students worked in pairs and learned the skill of making glass art mosaics. The entire class worked together to discuss a color scheme for the entire six piece mirror set. They worked together to create a color pallet, and used glass shapes to create designs on the frames. They used silicone calk and grout to keep the glass pieces in place. Make sure you look out for this beautiful set which will be one of the feature auction items at the BNS fundraiser! |
Hello, my name is Patti Rowland and I am the art teacher for grades K - 8 at Blacksburg New School. I feel very fortunate to be able to have each class for an hour two times a week. Teaching at Blacksburg New School gives me the opportunity to explore and create a curriculum that incorporates choice-based learning, which serves the varying processing styles of our young artists.
